What is Kriya Yoga?
Kriya Yoga, based on the science of breath, is an ancient and divinely provided method of living and meditation. It simultaneously cultivates body, mind, intellect, and soul using powerful meditative and yogic disciplines. Who started Kriya Yoga?
Lord is the original Master(Guru), who teaches through the ages in different ways. In Gita IV/1, Lord Krishna said “I taught this Yoga to Vivasvan (the first king of Solar Dynasty), who later on taught it to Manu (accepted as the first law giver of mankind), and Manu handed over this knowledge of Yoga to Ikshvaku.”
In modern times, the reviver of Kriya Yoga was Mahavatar Babaji Maharaj, who taught this sacred technique to Shri Lahiri Mahasaya in December 1861 in a cave of the Himalayas. Shri Lahiri Mahasaya is called the fountain head of Kriya Yoga. From him, the lineage of Kriya Yoga has continued to this day through different Masters.
